Design, performance & standards
Structural Performance
We manufacture SURELINE® poles from a special grade of steel - SL6000, produced at BlueScope Steel's Port Kembla Steelworks in NSW. In designing this steel, we have referred to Australian Standard AS4600 to ensure it will meet the needs of the electricity industry - this has allowed us to produce a range of steel power poles that deliver a number of key ultimate load strengths to suit many applications.
As our poles are engineered and manufactured to tight production tolerances, each pole in our range delivers the same look and performance for its specification. This gives you predictable structural performance and the ability to plan tooling and equipment well in advance of installation.
To prove SURELINE®'s performance we engaged independent consulting engineers O'Donnell Griffin to review our destructive pole testing in accordance with Australian Standard AS4676 Structural design requirements for utility services poles.
Australian Standards
The SL6000 steel from which every SURELINE® steel pole is made uses a low alloy content, fully killed steel and is manufactured by continuous casting and then rolled using modern thermomechanically controlled rolling techniques. The final circular section is manufactured on each occasion to the requirements of AS1163 Structural Steel Hollow Sections. Other Australian Standards used during development were:
- AS4676 Structural design requirements for utility services poles
- AS4677 Steel utility services poles
- AS4600 Cold-formed steel structures
- AS4680 Hot-dip galvanized (zinc) coatings on fabricated ferrous articles
Engineered Quality
The steel production, section manufacture, and hot dip galvanizing of our SURELINE® steel poles are carried out to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 quality standard.
