Durability & in-ground corrosion protection
Our SURELINE® steel poles have been designed to deliver the longest working life possible in each of their installed environments. The design features used to support this include:- hot dip galvanizing on inside and outside of the pole
- the use of a two part in-ground corrosion protection system
Hot dip galvanizing has proven its performance as a protective coating for steel in many industrial applications. The hot dip galvanizing process results in the coating being alloyed to the steel. This protects the steel by forming a physical barrier to the environment. In addition, the zinc acts to galvanically protect the steel and corrodes sacrificially in preference to it. While the zinc coating is intact, no steel corrosion can occur.

Our hot dip galvanized coating is applied according to Australian coating standards. However, the coating thickness on our steel poles has been repeatedly measured and is well above the standard coating requirement.
As well as selecting the best industrial coating, all SURELINE® steel poles come with a two-part in-ground corrosion protection system for the ground line area. This system comprises a waterproof-wrap fitted 500mm above and below the ground line where corrosion is sometimes known to occur, and a high density polyethylene sleeve over the wrap for added mechanical and UV protection.
Non-destructive testing equipment is readily available and can be used to measure the coating and steel thickness of the poles in accordance with Australian Standards. Australian Standards also make reference to the expected performance of galvanized steel in various environments, and can be used to establish the working life expectation of a pole in any given environment.
